The key to this business model is the nearly one million square-foot Zenni Optical manufacturing facility in Danyang, China, which houses state-of-the-art labs. Working out of their San Francisco garage and seeding the business with only their own personal savings, the pair set about realizing their vision of making fashionable eyewear that would still be affordable for the average consumer. Zenni Optical was founded in 2003 by scientists Tibor Laczay and Julia Zhen.
